General Overview
Guidelines:
Please bring more drinking water than you think you need, as well as two towels, one for sitting on and one for drying off later. Towels are available at the sauna as well. Only water in non-glass containers, no food, alcohol, or smoking inside the sauna. No candles, incense or fragrances, oils or lotions. This is not the world's hottest sauna and it does not need to be. It typically reaches 145 degrees F and can go up from there by using the ladle on the rocks for steam. Up to you. For 45 minutes to a one hour sauna, this is the ideal temp for health and wellness.
Please note:
Sauna sessions dehydrate your body, raise both your core temperature and your blood pressure. For health and safety, please:
Drink a lot of water
Cool off outside every 20 minutes
Be especially careful and aware of how the water is affecting you if:
You have a medical condition
You are taking medication
You are under a doctor's care
You are elderly or pregnant
Do not use the sauna if:
You have a communicable disease
You have an open sore or wound
For a wood-fired sauna, 145°F is considered an ideal temperature. This temperature is recommended for beginners or for those looking for a longer session where they can lay down and relax and/or do breathing exercises without overheating too quickly.
At 145°F, the dry heat is sustainable and gentle. You can stay inside longer (20–40 minutes) to slowly raise your core temperature.
The "Löyly" (Steam): The best way to increase the sauna's intensity is to add humidity. At 145°F, pouring water over hot sauna stones will create a wave of steam that makes the room feel significantly hotter and triggers a great sweat.
There is only a cold bucket shower, and no bathroom! Just a pee bucket if you get desperate. Please shower well at home before arriving.
